ARTE E MODA - WOMAN OF THE WORLD

Inspired by my grandmother’s vivid storytelling, I have developed a series of pattern artworks rooted in traditional Croatian folklore from the Dalmatian Zagora region. These designs reinterpret authentic motifs, transforming them into contemporary patterns for a collection of artworks bags exploring the idea of art in motion, where heritage meets fashion. Through this work, I've introduced a modern perspective to traditional narratives, drawing from oral histories that reflect the resilience, culture, and everyday lives of a hardworking people. Particularly the story of my grandmother, which remains central to my inspiration.

At the heart of this project lies a tribute to women across cultures, who have long carried the “stamp of duty” in preserving and expressing craft traditions. Their role as storytellers and creators is embedded within each artworks patterns.

Following the development of this project, I was approached by fashion designer Sladjana Krstic of QUEENMOOD COUTURE for a unique and exciting collaboration. My work was subsequently recognised by The Chamber of Fashion Malta, bringing an international dimension to the project. Celebrating women across the world, artists and designers from South Africa, Italy, Croatia, and Malta all came together to participate in this trully unique event at The Chamber’s Verdala Palace in Malta.

The fusion of my pattern work and Sladjana’s creative vision resulted in a truly magical collaboration -bridging art and fashion. This partnership led to the creation of some of our most distinctive and celebrated pieces, honouring and expressing our shared cultural heritage, particularly that of Croatia and impprtance of art in fashion. Fashion has always been more than a necessity; it is an art form that reflects culture, creativity, and human expression .In this sense, fashion is art in motion - living, walking, and speaking through the people who wear it.

During the day The Notarial Archives Foundation has holden a public lecture on importance of art in fashion in Valletta, exploring the captured spirit of their time, embodied societal aspirations and shaped social and cultural identity. In collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Culture, Justice and Local Government and the Embassy of Italy, the Consulate of the Republic of Croatia and the Consulate of the Republic of South Africa for “International Evening of Culture through fashion” at the Verdala Palace.
